On May 21, 2025, detectives with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Enforcement Team arrested Aurelius Deveaux of Ridgeland, SC, after receiving information about illegal drug activity in Turpin Park.

Deveaux was found in possession of 2.8 grams of crack cocaine and 7 grams of marijuana. He was taken into custody without incident and charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Crack Cocaine and Possession with Intent to Distribute within Proximity of a School or Public Park.

Sheriff Chris Malphrus praised the work of the Narcotics Enforcement Team and emphasized the importance of keeping public spaces safe:

“Parks and recreational areas are meant to be safe, family-friendly environments,” said Sheriff Chris Malphrus. “We will not tolerate drug activity in these spaces. I commend our detectives for their swift action and continued dedication to keeping Jasper County safe.”
