Jasper County Sheriff
Sheriff Chris Malphrus has dedicated over 25 years to law enforcement, serving and protecting the community he has called home since birth. Born and raised in Ridgeland, South Carolina, he graduated from Jasper County High School and began his career in law enforcement at the age of 21 under Sheriff Riley in Jasper County. Sheriff Malphrus’s early life experiences, including witnessing the impact of addiction within his own family, inspired him to take a stand against the drug problems that devastate families and communities. This commitment has remained a driving force throughout his distinguished career.
After starting his career with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff Malphrus served the City of Ridgeland for 18 years, during which he was honored as Officer of the Year three times. His exceptional work in combating drug-related crimes earned him national recognition for numerous drug and asset seizures. He further honed his leadership skills during his tenure with the Cottageville Police Department, where he rose through the ranks from lieutenant to captain and ultimately chief of police.
In addition to his extensive field experience, Sheriff Malphrus has pursued advanced training and education to enhance his expertise. He is a graduate of the FBI’s LEEDA Program and is nearing completion of a Bachelor of Science in K-9 Behavior from London Hannover. Sheriff Malphrus has also served as a member of both the DEA Task Force and the Homeland Security Task Force, further demonstrating his commitment to public safety and national security.
During his first term as sheriff, he implemented innovative programs and policies that reflect his dedication to combating crime and fostering community trust. His contributions to law enforcement have been recognized with numerous awards, including being named Officer of the Year by the Jasper County Chamber of Commerce.
Outside of his professional life, Sheriff Malphrus values spending time with his three children. He enjoys mechanical work on boats and relaxing on the Lowcountry waters. Sheriff Malphrus’s lifelong commitment to Jasper County, his achievements in law enforcement, and his passion for making a difference continue to make him a respected figure in the community.
