The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Public Safety are reminding everyone to slow down, stay alert, and watch for pedestrians. Unlike drivers, pedestrians do not have the protection of a vehicle in a crash, which makes awareness and caution on our roads more important than ever.
As we move into a month full of Halloween festivities, please remember that more children and families will be out walking, often in the dark and in unexpected places. Be extra careful, especially on Halloween night, when little ghosts and goblins may dart into the street without warning.
In 2023, more than 7,300 pedestrians were killed and over 68,000 were injured in traffic crashes across the United States. That is one pedestrian death every 72 minutes, a tragic reminder that every second of attention matters.
Drive with care. Walk with awareness. Let’s keep Jasper County safe for everyone.
