Today, we honor the life and service of K9 Huracan (Hurricane). Faithful to his work from start to finish, Huracan served with courage and dedication alongside Sgt. Mike Messer, beginning at Walterboro PD and finishing his career with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.
Huracan retired on August 16, 2019, and today, August 20, 2025, at 11:30 a.m., he reached his End of Watch. He was more than a partner. He was family. Deeply loved by Sgt. Messer, his family, friends, and countless others, Huracan touched many lives during his years of service.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Chief Roscoe, the Goose Creek Police Department Officers, and LCPL Michael Cook for honoring him today. Sgt. Messer was met at Mt. Holly Veterinary Clinic by a strong showing of officers, who then escorted Huracan to McAlister-Smith Funeral and Cremation.
Rest easy, Huracan. You served faithfully and with honor. You will never be forgotten.
