Bringing Loved Ones Home with Project Lifesaver

A search-and-rescue program to help locate adults and children who may wander due to cognitive conditions, a behavior that can pose serious dangers.

What is Project Lifesaver?

Project Lifesaver is a community-based public safety program that helps protect individuals with cognitive conditions who are at risk of wandering. This nationally recognized initiative equips law enforcement, fire/rescue teams, and caregivers with the tools and training needed to quickly locate and safely return those who may become lost.

As cognitive conditions have become more prevalent, Project Lifesaver has grown into an internationally trusted resource for reuniting families and bringing loved ones home.

Who is Eligible?

Individuals who are eligible for Project Lifesaver include those who have a cognitive disorder that puts them at risk of wandering. This includes people living with Alzheimer’s, dementia, autism, Down syndrome, or other similar conditions. The program combines advanced tracking technology, innovative search techniques, and specialized training for first responders. As a result, certified Project Lifesaver agencies can locate individuals in minutes, with recovery times averaging just 30 minutes—95% faster than traditional search efforts.

More About Project Lifesaver's Mission:

How it Works:

01

Agency Certification

Public safety agencies complete specialized training through Project Lifesaver International to become certified and equipped with tracking tools and knowledge of cognitive conditions.

02

Client Enrollment

Certified agencies enroll eligible individuals who are then fitted with a personalized transmitter worn on the wrist or ankle.

03

Emergency Response

If a client goes missing, caregivers alert the agency, and a trained search team is deployed using the client’s unique frequency.

04

Safe Recovery

Responders use radio tracking equipment and their training to locate and safely return the individual, often within 30 minutes.

How Much Does it Cost?

Enrollment in Project Lifesaver through the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office is completely free of charge, thanks to the support of generous community donations. This ensures that families in need can access the program without financial burden.

In addition to being free for participants, Project Lifesaver helps reduce the overall cost of search and rescue efforts by minimizing the time, personnel, and resources required to locate a missing individual. It’s an investment in both public safety and peace of mind.
