K9 Handler Rob Martin – Department Spotlight – July 5, 2021

Happy Monday fellow Jasper County Residents! Our Department Spotlight this week is K9 Handler Rob Martin and his K9 Addie May.

K9 Handler Martin joined us in the Lowcountry 6 years ago from Pittsburgh to work with the Ridgeland Police Department before starting at Jasper County Sheriff’s Office just recently.

Martin says he became an officer for “the excitement of the job and having a desire to help my community”.

Handler Martin has had Addie May since she was 6 weeks old and has worked diligently on her training to be a Police K9. Addie May is labeled as a Police Utility K9 because she does everything from drugs to weapons, and tracking. Her favorite food is peanut butter and she even gets to indulge with an ice-cream sunday on her Birthdays! This power team is excited to be a part of the JCSO as much as we are excited to have them working with us.

When we asked Handler Martin for some words of advice to the younger generations, he said
“Pay attention to your surroundings, know where you are, learn from where you’ve been, and know that life always gets better” Addie May sits next to him patiently waiting to play.

Thank you for your dedicated service and protection over Jasper County!
